The hand made blown glass sculpture represents an aspect of my work associated with the idea of Power Objects - where the objects constitute a connection to the most powerful forces and survival instincts that animate existence. The intent being to empower 'the other' - the species we share this blue planet with, floating through space. Most typically I use parrots as a symbol of this idea due the range of colours they exhibit, and that our species connects readily with them. The fact that many parrot species have gone extinct relatively recently and others are almost gone, on the verge of extinction is the impetus for creating these pieces. The idea embedded in these works is that these species should be increasing rather than disappearing.
