About The Artwork

This bottle was thrown on the potters wheel using cranks clay body, which is a very groggy clay, then altered so that the handle is part of the form and not separate. A lily pond leaf is then used to texture the surface. the piece was bisque fired then glazed in a low fire shino and then raku fired. Raku is a method of firing which is quick. The piece is quickly fired to temperature then removed from the kiln and placed in a reducing atmosphere such as sawdust or in this case, water. This piece reflects my love of the natural world and natural material such as clay and my attraction to textured surfaces and atmospheric firing. It pays homage to what can be done with the things that are around your space such as leaves and sawdust.
