About The Artwork

Most stone restoration on buildings is GFRC [fiberglass reinforced concrete], on this project run-off water had completely dissolved the body and head of the Eagle. There were 4 other eagles on the building but it wasn't possible to 'pull molds' for GFRC because the heads of the other Eagles were turned the wrong way. I didn't have the slightest idea how to do it [and of course you don't tell anyone, you just carry on] I recalled that ancient Egyptians used large cutouts for replication. So that became my basic method. The head and body had to be keyed down into the building using salvaged limestone from a different building but from the same quarry; all other pieces are pinned to the 'keyed in' stone. As I recall it was Idaho Limestone. It turned out to be fun. Restoration solutions come from years of personal sculpture where you have an inspiration and make up the means of the execution or process. Its addictive. A learning curve that never ends.
