About The Artwork

This work is fully designed and very close to completion in it’s clay form. In bronze, it’s form will remain the same but it will have an entirely new color and be completely impervious to weather conditions. This work was designed to look excellent from any angle and I believe it does. I sculpted this piece with the intention of riding the line between figurative and modern styles. I consider it a success in this endeavor. The search for knowledge and the achievement of higher understanding are both concepts well defined in this work. While the sculpture is a clear image, it also offers the viewer a chance interpret and exchange ideas while observing the piece. This is a valuable trait in any piece of public art. Structurally, cast bronze is extremely strong and this piece takes advantage of that strength with the majority of the work not touching the ground. I feel this gives the work a sense of motion and the illusion of precarious balance.

To me the quality of art is determined by its ability to communicate an idea. Large or small, simple or complex, it doesn't matter as long as the communication is there. When it comes to my work I try to apply this idea. I want my sculpture to clearly say something to the viewer that acknowledges their personal reality, something they see in my art that mirrors something within themselves. Maybe it's an experience they had or an idea they hold dear, whatever the point of reality may  be I want my artwork to connect with that and duplicate it. Un-intentionally I often find the communication that I am placing in my sculpture is one of hope, breaking bounds and becoming better. This just seems to be the communication that inspires me to create. I feel that those ideas are universal and no matter the person, everyone has felt the need for hope, or the desire to break free and improve. These are the types of natural urges that make mankind worthwhile.  My art exists to acknowledge and strengthen these ideas and all of the successes and hardships that come with them.
