About The Artwork

Statuary marble, it means a absolutely beautiful bright and crystalline stone. Ready to be hung on the wall or displayed on a desk or any furniture : with a stainless steel detachable frame already made, but possibility to propose or advise for a brass or bronze frame - made in the fine art workshops in Paris. Our reference and workshop in Italy: kivera.net (tab: carving) Our personal address : in Paris and London. Possibility to deliver directly in person. Our INSPIRATION A notorious 1930 Art Deco masterpiece of C.S Jagger displayed since 2005 in the Victoria & Albert museum- London - A aesthetic unique design with a strong historical context. - A minimalist pattern to express a powerful intellectual argument through Art. - A amazing story about friendship and love, English society and discrimation, a family industrial dynasty loving Freedom and Art, out of any conformism. - A background link between South Africa through the symbol of cheetahs and the British art culture. Our MESSAGE "Love and freedom beyond any prejudice". In 1930 as in 2018, fighting discrimination or intolerance, fighting "gossip" of the society is still current topics. Here is our tiny artistic contribution to join the spirit of the original commission: to pay tribute to freethinkers. THE SYMBOL OF THE PATTERN “Jagger depicted in shallow relief two snarling cheetahs or leopards, hiding behind female masks to signify the "double face" and "cattiness" of society gossip. In the centre is a macaw, to make play on the idea of "parroting" phrases without thought for content or meaning.” Our CHALLENGE - To choose statuary marble as medium- instead of iron cast or bronze cast- to make this piece UNIQUE and much more contemporary - carving in a traditional way by hand only, using the pointing machine too as the artists in the past. -To give a contemporary approach, easy to integrate as a architectural or decorative panel. The STORY of this MASTERPIECE belonging to the ENGLISH HERITAGE Our work is inspired by a outstanding famous Art Deco masterpiece called “The Scandal relief ” designed by the notorious British sculptor Charles Sergeant Jagger in London,1930, sold at Sotheby's in 2004 to a private collector in USA, but eventually, purchased in 2005 by Victoria & Albert Museum, London,to keep the British Heritage in UK. The Scandal relief and a companion firebasket were commissioned by Henry Mond (1898–1949), later the second Lord Melchett. This ensemble, composed by a shallow bronze cast relief below a chimney and a fine art firebasket, iron cast: it was one of the most important artistic features within the remodelled interior of Mulberry House, Smith Square, Westminster. It was considered at the time one of the most important Art Deco interiors in London. Why “Scandal”? Henry Mond and his wife Gwen made the commission as a humorous reference to their early « ménage à trois » with the writer Gilbert Cannan they supported. This challenge reflected the Monds' scandalous liaison which further challenged society's rules not only by its unconventional nature but by being a love-match between different classes: Henry, heir to the ICI fortune, and Gwen, a colonial, from an unknown South African family. The firebasket continues the scandal theme depicted in the relief that hung above the fireplace through the strong symbolic pattern.
