About The Artwork

[ MEMORIⒶVENIR ] "2020-01" Is a coat object which found its roots in the history of mens coats like penguin suits or tails. The artist started creating it from an entire new perspective instead of the traditional way of mens tailoring. First there were two old worn jeans of his private belonging. Strategically opened seams and trying out in trial an error process he was finding out the most effective and esthetically way of assembling them into another new piece of coat object. The artists deep interesting in history comes out in that object as it finally developed into the shape of the traditional mens coat object. Furthermore, his devoted strong interest in Japanese culture and textile crafting techniques lead to find solutions in the textile surface creation the spirit of "wabi sabi" or "mottainai" like the boro and shashiko craft technique of the peasants or labours people. From that point of view, it is interesting to come to the beginning of the classic gentleman tail silhouette to the process of used creating techniques. The contrast of those both leads to the name of that object "2020-01" and reveals its political message. As the artists main subject is the object of jacket since the dawn of his artistic career, he decided to keep faithful in his favored object but to translate in a new form. His work process often starts involving and examination in surface and body/solid questions. In this object he is presenting a bastard or offbeat way of thinking outside the box, trying to leave conventions of regular pattern making. Its aim was to find an uncommon solution. Finally, this object presents the message of social deficiency like workers producing in very bad conditions products and get very bad paid, while managers bankrupt companies and achieve payments over and over. As explained this piece of art contains multiple perspective messages. The artist works on the interface of design, textile, fine art, history, society and craft.

[ MEMORIⒶVENIR ] is an artistic project by the designer and visual artist Stefan Zéphyr Teske. The origin of this project has been documented since 2003 and has developed consistently to this day in a constant process. With his artistic work the artist is positioned in an extraordinary niche of fine art. The objects of the artist can be assigned to the field of three-dimensional textile sculptures. Within his subject, he deals with textile material, surface structures and the spatial process of two-dimensional surfaces to form three-dimensional bodies. Interests and questions that have fascinated and moved him since his childhood are intuitively taken up in a playful way through form, materiality and subject and critically questioned in the process of editing. He moves on the interface of design, textile, art, history, society and craft. As a characteristic object, he has opted for the recurring, unusual motif "jacket and coat". This motif is continuously revised and reinterpreted. Like in a laboratory, he dissects form and surface and finds new approaches and syntheses through experimental analysis. The artist deliberately chooses the motif "jacket and coat" as an object in order to question the paradoxical ambivalence between art / product, activity / passivity or inside / outside. His poetic-eerie staged sculptures always resonate with a mysterious subtle ciphering. This mystical-enigmatic aspect of his work stands in stark contrast to our current world, where almost everything unknown can be googled immediately. The retrospective titled [ MEMORIⒶVENIR ] presents for the first time a snapshot of a part of his previous œuvre since 2003. (www.stefanteske.jimdo.com) From the artists perspective a permanent continuation of this project is planned. [ MEMORIⒶVENIR ] · BÂTAR D´ESTE - by Stefan Zéphyr Teske Berlin, April 2019
