MONDRIAN TWIST Sculpture

Mondrian inspired this work because of the symmetry he created in his paintings. The twist in the cabinet came about by accident, it was a Sunday morning, and I was assembling the first Mondrian. I was talking to a friend on the phone, and I folded the aluminum panel diagonally across the sheet instead of straight. I told my fiend what I had done, what are you going to do he asked, If I fold the 2nd panel the same then two wrongs make a right. My friend then made the comment that it's not fashionable to be straight these days. I have never built one of the Mondrian lamps with a straight cabinet, it corkscrews through a twist as it rises, starting square at the base 11.5" x 11.5" at the top 9.5" x 12". I am influenced by pop art and decided to give it that vibe by hand painting the extremely sexy high heels in the same fashion and the two work together purely because of the Mondrian style. All the glass is colored and handmade, on closer inspection you will see the swirls and texture which creates interest. As per Mondrian the colors are strong and primary, if the lamp is on or off it draws you in. The work photographed is the display in the gallery, all my work is made to order.
