Wondering has become a lost art. Instead of letting my mind wonder, my hand, through automatic body-memory, reaches for my cell phone and ‘BAM’ Google eliminates the need to waste a single moment. Perhaps the joy of the wondering (and wandering) mind still lives as every young child comes to terms with a compelling notion that has been placed deep within his or her heart. Play, create, search, explore and wonder! The same intrigue that had us gazing up at the stars, confronting the fact that space had no end, only to drive us to try to find it. Form follows function as warp-speed is designed into this saucer made from a saucepan lid and the bottom of a metal spinning top. Rocket boosters fix this ship to the exact Martian trajectory with the help of the adjustable support arm and base. The wonder of this piece comes alive as the interior light show blasts through die-cut holes in the hull, dancing out into the darkness of space. Each of my original sculptures is painstakingly hand-constructed and designed to make a provocative statement that compliments any modern décor. THE FINE ART OF SPACE EXPLORATION: Repurposing vintage found-objects to a high level of aesthetics is not rocket science but it does require an evolved design sense, not to mention a deep appreciation of Americana. I dedicate a great deal of attention to creating sculptures that are truly artistic and truly captivating in their ability to transport you back through the good times while simultaneously launching your imagination to a futuristic world charged with excitement. I remember as the future unfolded right before my eyes in 1968. A gigantic space station, serenaded by The Blue Danube Waltz, spun weightlessly on the movie theater screen as 2001: A Space Odyssey fixed my creative trajectory to pursue a degree in fine art, establish a life-long career in art and design and eventually to work on what I call Retro Rockets: everyday mid-century items thoughtfully transformed into beautiful sculptures wired for lighting and other effects. My mission is to convert the ordinary, not only into extraordinary spacecraft, but also into time machines to those by-gone glory-days of space exploration and adventure.
