Mithril is a weeping willow tree made up of over 571 strands of silver-plated copper wire that has been sealed to prevent oxidation. I used a new technique for this tree to allow the willow fronds to have movement, and to give a nod to the delicate leaves of the willow, I hand crimped each of the frond pieces before attaching then to the tips of the branches. The resulting tree is simply amazing. This tree sparkles like a diamond cut chain in most lights. Unfortunately, my photographic skills had difficulty catching that radiance until on chance video in very low lightings. Please take the time to view the complete video, on my website portfolio listing, to appreciate this tree. Since Weeping Willows generally grow near water, the base I chose for this tree flows with a liquid sensuousness that completes the overall beauty of this piece. As with many beautiful things, Mithril is a delicate tree, and unlike my curled foliage trees, requires a gentle handling. The crimped fronds can tangle if treated without care. Because of this, I do not recommend displaying Mithril where children can be drawn by the sparkling movement to play with the tree. A turntable video of this tree is available on my website: www.erainntree.com You can learn more about the making of this tree on my website blog.

I have studied the art of bonsai for over to ten years. My wire bonsais developed as an offshoot from searching the internet for bonsai wire for some new saplings. My love affair with trees began at an early age. I spent a great deal of my childhood in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. It was only natural that, as an adult, I gravitated to the art of Bonsai. I now live in South Carolina, surrounded by beautiful southern trees, and I have discovered the sheer joy of sculpting trees from wire. From those first simple wire trees to my current work, I have grown in love and skill of this art form. I am self-taught, and this schooling will last my lifetime. In the beginning, three local galleries carried my work, today I sell mainly by direct commission and through the internet. My trees are now in homes from coast to coast, north to south in the US. As of 2016, they have spread to Canada --proof that the language of trees is international. Video of each tree are posted on my website: www.erainntree.com
