Mono 2 Sculpture

This piece is cast concrete with inset slab glass and illuminated from within. It's a freestanding monolith, but can be wall mounted. I have been working with leaded glass for years, so this is a different direction for me. The inspiration came from various areas. There are modernist cathedrals and churches in the UK and USA that have windows of slab glass set into a resin or concrete matrix, it's known as 'Dal de verre'. Some of my favourite architecture uses cast decorative concrete, Frank Lloyd Wright for example. Also I love the massiveness of concrete, so solid and immortal. This object will still exist in a million years, probably in landfill by then. The lights inside are low voltage LED'S that plug into the mains. It's a UK fitting but the lights could be changed for a different country. I haven't seen anything else like this so I feel it's just from me, not derived from the work of another artist. I hope people will find it good.
