This is a Shona statue of a mother and her child bonded together. The Shona people are the oldest tribe in Zimbabwe and are believed to be the legendary guardians of King Solomon's mines. The Shona stone carvers believe that every rock contains a spirit essence that influences how the stone will be shaped and transformed during carving. This specific Shona statue is believed to bring prosperity to its owners. This sculpture is made out of soapstone from Zimbabwe.

We unite talented African artists with the rest of the world through the power of their unique art. We believe that there is an abundance of under-lighted and undervalued artistic talent to find in Africa. An artist in Africa has to face an abundance of smaller problems as well as the lack of a wealthy upper class to sell to. We spread their full stories and advertise their art to the broader public through affordable prices at https://www.afroartists.org/
