With this sculpture Tarisse & Sarrita wanted to translate their collaboration ‘My Country’s Story’ into a 3D object. The choice to use metal is a reflection on the strength and longevity of the Australian Indigenous culture and the stories passed down over the centuries. The natural tarnish & rust is a reflection of the age of the markings and long history of these stories. This style is a collaborative combining Tarisse King's My Country style and her sister, Sarrita’s Language of the Earth style. This collaboration shows the tearing away of the land, specifically areas around Katherine to reveal the Earth’s story. The history of the land where we come from connects us to our family, our culture and all living things. Sarrita seeks to express her impression of the land and some of its stories. The symbols within are patterns for the viewer to connect with but the layout of the painting has its own story.

Gurindji | Waanyi ‘There is so much beauty in this world and it’s hard to capture it all, but I can try.’ (Sarrita King) At 33 years old Sarrita King lives in Darwin, N.T where she spent most of her youth. The Northern Territory continues to be the source of much of her creative inspiration along with the stories her father, the late, William King Jungala, shared with her. She lives with her partner, Chad and her sons Steele and Grange and splits her time between family and working in the studio. Sarrita’s new family has only strengthened her desire to share her culture and stories through her art.
