About The Artwork
Technique: Sculpture made both of iron and stainless steel: the woman and the toad are made of sheet iron, while the base representing the pond is made of stainless steel, 1,5 mm thick. The coat belt is patinated and bronze-coloured. The sculpture has been polished to remove the welding patina. A transparent rust preventer paint and some beeswax have been applied on the surface. Interior scuplture Meaning: The fairy tale of the Princess and her Prince Charming is still relevant. The toad juts out from the pond and stares at the woman, his princess, waiting for that kiss which might turn him into a prince. The woman, though standing in front of him, directs her gaze to the horizon, still not yet convinced of kissing him. Or perhaps she's simply distracted or she hasn't seen him yet. Who knows if this contemporary fairy tale will have a happy ending? In all my sculptures I always try to convey the feeling of motion, lightness, suppleness, three features in sharp contrast with the rigidity and the heaviness of the materials used, such as iron and steel. The motion is conveyed by the action or the shape which should be winding, never stiff. The suppleness comes from the peculiar working technique: the iron, all riddled with holes, allows you to glimpse at the backside, communicating a feeling of “passing through
