The soul of nature is the main theme in the works of Iris Burghout. Her drawings, collages and objects explore the life-stories of nature, of plants, animals, humans. From uni-celled unto the universe. Observing and drawing Iris questions life. What is the soul of an organism, the core? What does individuality, personality look like? What’s the story of that detail or that scar? In what ways are all living connected? The cycle of life and death, the great life-experiences, what are the parallels between for instance a plant and a human? The works depict an original world filled with beauty, vitality, vulnerability and transience. It offers the viewer an escape from the daily reality. But at the same time the works show the essence of life.
