About The Artwork

Over the years while making my work, I’ve formed an idea in which functional spheres are launched into outer space and settle in Lagrangian points throughout the solar system. These spheres are equipped with wrapped conductors that could be manipulated on gimbals, or manipulate themselves via solar wind. Solar wind particles are charged, and would interfere with the sphere’s equipment, which would generate a small force of rotation. That rotation wouldn’t be hindered by any forces in the Lagrangian points of outer space, and it would continue to accelerate the spheres' rotation to ludicrous speeds. Over the years, the spheres build up outrageous amounts of kinetic energy. A space ship’s course could be plotted to pick up these rotating orbs of kinetic energy, and use that energy to propel the ship without the use of traditional fuels. After the ship has harvested all that kinetic energy and the sphere stops rotating, the sphere can be delivered back into outer space, like cosmic bread crumbs for the ship’s return journey (if needed) or for the next ship leaving Earth. The continuous solar wind recharges the sphere’s kinetic energy. I want to bridge my artistic research, teaching of Science, daily routines, process based material mediations and science fiction passions into an amalgamation of objects and ideas that I have not yet witnessed in the real world.
