About The Artwork
“Oracle” is part of the ‘Skyworks’ series of sculpture, Sheldon began in 2016. He uses what he likes to call a ‘NASA aesthetic’ in their creation. They appear mathematical in their appearance, but each piece is begun intuitively, by sketching and creating maquettes of wood. 'Oracle' pays homage to Humanity's earliest connections to world's beyond Earth. The large 'eye' on top of the piece pays homage to ancient 'all-seeing eyes' that were meant to symbolize all-encompassing knowledge and wisdom, such as was found at the oracle at Delphi in ancient Greece. The bird form on the side amongst the planet shapes is meant to symbolize a celestial messenger connected to the heavens. This piece stands 8' tall and is made with .5 inch aluminum.
