About The Artwork

Series Paradise Slices depicts nature in paradise with use of tropical bright and neon colors that glow differently in the dark, under UV light. and regular light. This series is focused on escapism, a place of wonder and relaxation, a slice of paradise. The change in colors resembles the change in energy/emotion within humans, the change of colors in paradise, and the variations of self we all have. Yana Gordin is a mixed media artist and licensed mental health therapist. Yana was born in Moscow, Russia and raised in Los Angeles, California. After migrating to America at 5 years old and without knowing English, Yana excelled in one class during her early school years: art. It was during kindergarten when she first experienced healing from art in the form of non verbal communication with her classmates. Later, art was again healing during studio art classes as coping with loss of her father while working on her BA in psychology program. By the end of her undergraduate studies, Yana began exhibiting her artwork at numerous events, showcases, and was picked up by an art gallery in West Hollywood. Having been so inspired by the healing power of art and wanting to help others, she earned her Master's in Psychology with emphasis of MFT/Art Therapy during 2014, and soon after earned her Doctorate (PsyD) in Applied Clinical Psychology during 2017. Since then, art has continued to prove itself as a catalyst of communication, connection to self/others/divine, expression, learning, healing, education, and emotional wellness. Within her artwork, Yana's style is abstract and semi abstract. Her subjects are nature, spirituality, psychology, existentialism, and meditation. She uses various mediums due to their special and unique purposes. Current series "Crystal Trees" is focused on reviving dead wood using crystals, light, and glowing mediums; much like how humans utilize a cocktail of tools to heal. The color changing between fluorescence, phosphorescence, and LED lighting within each piece speaks to the various aspects of self we all have. The process from start to finish is healing in itself; walks around the ocean to find wood, meditation to tap into aspects of each crystal used, physical grounding, and creative expression.
