This powerful pot is thrown with a hard to master technique to create the fissures in the surface. I developed this technique to create a surface that evokes associations of dried earth or weathered stone layers.
The vase is called 'Pebble Beach', because the silver shiny edge evokes associations with water and strongly contrasts with the matte textures of pebbles on the neck and the stony matte vase itself. This vase, glazed in the colors of water evokes a strange contradiction in itself.

I was born in The Hague, Netherlands in 1952. Since 1991 I exhibit my ceramic work on a regular base. My work is on display in private collections, galleries and museums in the Netherlands and abroad (e.g. United Kingdom, Taiwan, South Korea and China), and has been featured in several publications. Most of my work is wheel thrown with sculpted elements. The inspiration comes from weathered surfaces: layers in rock formations, cracks in dried river beds or gnarled tree bark. It needs great skills on the potter’s wheel to turn these textures into clay. Matte, rough glazes, fired at high temperatures finish off my work. The addition of elements such as hand sculpted branches or steles, or the use of gold lustre makes every piece unique. In 2020 I was awarded with a bronze prize for my exhibit in the 8th Taiwan International Golden Teapot Competition and Exhibition. I received a bronze award for my work "Fruit of Sedimentary Rocks" at the 1 st China Changchun "Yatai Lotus Mountain Prize" International Ceramics Contest 2019. I received the oeuvre prize for my work in 2018 from the Fund ArtiBrak Foundation in Voorburg. For more than 30 years teaching ceramics has been an important part of my work. The last 8 years as a teacher at the Ceramics Training Institute of the Netherlands (NKO) in Gouda.
