About The Artwork

Frequently, in a relationship, tension begins as a calm, passive state. Soon enough, something pushes or pulls on the strands of that relationship, and the tension builds, with a couple of strands of that relationship giving way. The tension builds even further, and those tense strands start popping with barbed edges and swords. The tense relationship reaches a crescendo, and just about everything breaks apart. However, not everything is lost - some fundamental strands of the relationship are still in tact, and gives one an opportunity to re-build, hopefully a stronger relationship... "Phases Of Tension" was created by cutting into five separate square shapes with an Xacto knife, then manipulating the cut shapes to create each tense form. Each individual phase was hand painted, to resemble steel, with the finest Winsor Newton Gouache paint, on Arches hot press watercolor paper. Each shape was then mounted on a black mat board, then onto a black canvas, and framed into a floater frame; then assembled together to create one work of art. Each piece of artwork that I have created comes signed and dated, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
