About The Artwork
This is the result of my very first attempt to create a sculpture from something harder than soapstone. This is a French lime stone called Pierre de Lance. This sculture really just emerged from no idea at all to a crystal clear image within minutes. After two days of working the stone with hammer and chisel no one saw what it was going to look like, but for me it was absolutely clear: this is man in despair, trying to hide from evil hovering over him.

For my inspiration I look at all the beauty that surrounds me, generally female beauty and translate that into my sculptures. What would men be without women and female beauty? My challenge is to visualize or at least acknowledge the relevancy of that question. I sign my sculptures with RGN59 or REIGN59, reign is an anagram of the first letters of my full name.
