Primitive Blue Sculpture

This mixed media sculptural piece, like all my work, comes from my exploration of the notion of identity and is informed by my own personal struggles, and indeed, joys of living with mental illness. Perfect piece for the discerning doll collector. My work is process based and seeks to explore the spatial and temporal dimensions of neurosis, awkwardness and artifice. A means of controlling and understanding my creation of public and private personas which serve to hide as much of my identity as they reveal and my struggle to try to find a balance between these different manifestations of self. This piece is created using plaster, bones, wire, foliage, threads, paints, resin and other found materials. When creating sculptural works I particularly like to include natural elements which although preserved with laquers, will continue to slowly change and die over time. By the very nature of them having elements which are dying, it means that the pieces are very much alive.
