About The Artwork

The queen with the neck rings, is a sculpture that describes the power and the appearance. The neck rings appear in some tribes in different parts of the world, but my main inspiration was the Ndebele tribe, because the rings are placed on women after marriage and represent the wealth of husbands over the years, that is, the amount of rings surrounding a woman's neck, specifies the husband's purchasing power. This makes it possible to determine the social class of the family through clothing, as it happens in all societies in the world, with the difference that the rings cause deformations for life, lowering the woman's collarbone and determining the lack of head support. , making the use of rings indispensable for survival. Queen Elisabete is the protagonist of this work because she is the largest British representative, colonizing country in South Africa, where the Ndebele tribe is located, and she comes to the scene and in the shoes of an African woman, with values, culture and opposite customs, but deep down, that there is something in common, the need for appearance through minerals and the obligation to follow the rites and customs, within an extreme morality, without the right to choose and freedom.
