About The Artwork

Title: "The Queen of Hearts" Unveiling the Grotesque Realities of Patriarchal Abuse** "The Queen of Hearts" is an abstract sculpture that stands as a visceral testament to the grotesque and insidious reality of patriarchal abuse against women. Build in clay and adorned with a deep bronze and crimson glaze, this artwork thrusts the brutality of such abuse into the forefront, demanding acknowledgment and action. The sculpture's chaotic and abstract form, resembling a grotesque, is deliberately unsettling. It represents the turbulence and discord that women subjected to abuse often endure silently. The presence of hearts, traditionally associated with love and compassion, serves as a bitter irony - a stark reminder of the betrayal of trust and the perversion of affection. "The Queen of Hearts" challenges us to confront the ugliness that festers beneath the surface of society. It compels us to question our complicity, urging society to dismantle the structures that perpetuate such violence against women. This artwork is a call for awareness, empathy, and change, striving to be a voice for those who have been silenced for far too long.

Artist's statement; "My mind is a playground different from the rest Feeling your words with images and zest Add in some movement, colour & sound I offer an awareness that could be profound." Diana Capstick is a neurodiverse abstract experimental artist, photographer and sculptor. Ever exploring, Diana is never tied to one genre. The joy in her work, reflects her ability to find the freedom to express many of her ever-changing facets. Her work contains passion, with each individual piece, not only an expression of thought, but also depicting her feelings about our world. Concerned about humanity, and our desperate desire to right the wrongs committed on the planet. She pulls from society, subjects that resonate with her inner being. Diana enjoys exploration and pushing the boundaries. Working in a mixture of mediums, including both 2D and 3D. Her style of art reflects her life...its as simple as that. Her childhood was idyllic until school. As a neurodiverse ADHD dyslexia child, she struggled with unsympathetic teaching. This drove her to find solitude in the art class where she played with colour and texture. Seeing life in colour, shape and energy, Diana feels them as a musician feels sound. This is reflected in her brush strokes, mark making & choice of palette. Her creations are an expression of what she sees and feels, hence, choosing subjects with passionate such as nature, our planet, political issues, and environment. In her sculpture work she takes a conceptual way of working which has a more direct impact, than the subtlety of paint on canvas. Diana’s sublime landscapes are nostalgic and evocative, sometimes containing a whimsical approach. She has an ethereal desire to explore the landscape and nature. She pushes at the boundaries of cultural identity giving one the feeling of belonging, by drawing on her own experience of relocating many times.
