About The Artwork

The Radiant Sphere is a modern take on a familiar sculptural form, which speaks to the future of wood technology and its role in building. The process of change and evolution is what defines the Radiant sphere. As seen in nature at the molecular level, life divides and reforms and makes new again. All of this requires energy. The light emanating from the voids exudes that energy; it represents growth and transformation. The sphere is comprised of alternating layers of a specifically outdoor suited modified wood product- Accoya. The dimensioned wood of the Accoya sphere portrays traditional wood material from a different perspective. Dimensioned lumber is omnipresent in our society as a building material, it has been fundamental to the development of the City of Vancouver. The skills and craftsmanship acquired by historical Vancouverites have developed in tandem with the progression of the lumber industry. Local stores such as Kerrisdale Lumber have been providing lumber resources to communities for decades, erstwhile becoming a hub for people to connect and converse. Wood as a material is inextricably linked to our history as a society, and has been a keystone of our communities. Accoya wood itself represents an industry in transformation. It is a modified wood product, that is totally waterproof, non-toxic, and environmentally sound. Using modern wood technologies, through the process of acytelation, the wood is altered to become waterproof and more durable from the surface to the core using already naturally occurring chemicals. As a result Accoya becomes an alternative exterior building material, providing a sustainable alternative to conventionally non-renewable products. Photos courtesy of Gryphon Development.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I work with locally sourced materials to create sculpted objects, functional pieces and designed environments. My work bridges the gap between art and functionality and is not easily classified. While the work itself is constantly evolving, I strive to honour the material’s origins in each piece. I have a deep respect for, and connection to, the Pacific Northwest. My body of work is founded on a reflection of place, place as in the physical environment but also as an experience within that environment. It is my interpretation of the natural world that drives me to create pieces that express the stories that surround us. Every piece I design begins with a story; whether it is something I have experienced or something that is more universal. My hope is to capture people’s attention and ignite an emotional and tangible connection to their surroundings.
