About The Artwork
MOTHER is part of Terra Firma Family series. The sculptures are about “LIVING GREEN”. “TERRA FIRMA FAMILY” symbolizes three generations that preserve and respect the EARTH. “Go Green", “Think “Green” you hear now days every where. It's not just about buying a hybrid, changing your light bulbs or recycling. It's about doing all these things and more to preserve the planet we live on... It's about respecting it, protecting it and enjoying it. We can also make a difference in the world by teaching our younger generation to contribute to the beauty, harmony and balance of our planet. The sculptures are made of clay. They are thrown on the wheel and heavily altered. Mixed media like wire and organic materials are integrated into the work. Raku fired. . TERRA FIRMA FAMILY was on display two times at regional juried shows such at The Institute of Living Artists in Mingy Museum, Balboa Park San Diego.

My strongest inspiration comes from Mother nature and its influences on the shape of plants and animals, trees and rocks, both on land and underwater. New techniques and forms continually stimulate my interest in clay. The process of integrating various media with clay, like metal wire, stones, sand and wood to create dynamics has a great appeal to me. It is fascinating to take something essentially flat and turn it into organic form with volume creating a synergy between layered color, texture and movement. My favorite firing method is raku but I also use high fire with reduction process and oxidation process.
