On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks, at the age of 42, refused to give up here seat on the city bus to make room for a white passenger. Parks’ quiet courageous act of defiance was an important symbol of the modern Civil Rights Movement that changed America, its view of black people, and redirected the course of history. These artworks were made with Rosa Parks in mind. They were produced in December of 1995, 10 years before Rosa Parks would receive the posthumous honor of lying in state at the Capital Rotunda.
