The Story of S.Punk & Queen - S.Punk: “S” for Siamese twin, scrawny, short-changed and sinister. She was reconstructed post separation from her twin with parts from a local clock repair shop. Ironically, she came into fashion with the advent of steampunk. Sister S sprouted roots within weeks of her separation from her counterpart. It is believed that she feels more connected to what’s below ground than above. She becomes particularly irritable when it rains, causing her gears to grind. Queen: Siamese twin Queen was named by her father who favored her dimples and her shiny eyes. She looked most like her mother who ran off with Uncle Buck. The girls were too much to handle alone, and when offered $50 by the circus talent agent, it seemed like a good idea. The sisters were divided after a year being the feature sideshow attraction. Now S. Punk grooms the bearded lady and Queen is billed as Cleopatra, the Snake Charmer. ----- S. Punk & Queen are duo mixed media female bust sculptures created from aqua resin and duo matrix neo, featuring fine detail elements created from crystal gemstones, metal wheel cogs, wood and other found objects to create a whimsical, steampunk vibe.

Creating art allows me to indulge in intense intimacy while exploring my independent ideas and ideals. I’m fascinated with the chemistry of humankind and nature, with a particular affinity for metal (or metallic) and wood, approaching a subject with the aged patina intact. Being a self-taught artist, I can’t hide behind technique. I strive to be an honest and emotional storyteller, albeit naive. The intimacy of my sculptural portraits derives from the fact that they are unapologetically flawed. The avalanche of texture does not attempt to hide inconsistencies, but rather a wabi-sabi tribute— seeing the beauty in the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. The portrait is both model and message— a statement of belonging and intention made visible. Whether it is man, animal or mythological creature, the viewer is engaged in cross cultural dialogue. Art is where all paths converge, and improbable connection made possible.
