Inspired by nature and the raked patterns found in Japanese Zen Gardens known as samon (砂紋) or hōkime (箒目). The optical illusion is combined with a three dimensional construction, creating a mesmerising effect and a powerful aid for meditation. Using a combination of traditional optical techniques and contemporary manufacturing processes, individual layers of paper are carefully assembled to construct the final artwork. Displayed in a black frame with anti-reflective glass, selected to minimise reflections and maximise the effect of the artwork. Each packaged in a hand-made presentation box. Artist's Proof.

Born in 1978 to an English father and Singaporean mother, Myoshka’s life and work has been significantly influenced by a mix of Eastern and Western cultures. His artworks are created with meticulous and painstaking detail and utilise skills from a number of visual disciplines, combining traditional techniques with contemporary manufacturing processes. Myoshka’s oeuvre is driven by balance and contrast – the artist re-appropriates symbols and sacred geometric shapes from religious contexts such Buddhism and Islam. For each element of Myoshka’s work, one finds its opposite closely integrated, allowing the interaction of negative with positive, the dialogue between light and dark and the tension between disruption and harmony. Within each artwork a powerful optical effect is created as the artist appropriates and masters a core symbol or element. He concedes that creating these intricate, highly detailed patterns and forms is a meditative process.
