About The Artwork

Sisyphus. Albert Camus, in his 1942 essay The Myth of Sisyphus, saw Sisyphus as personifying the absurdity of human life, but Camus concludes "one must imagine Sisyphus happy" as "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart." To me the piece embodies artistic/ creative life - the joy is in the process, following by brief pleasure then on to the next work. The Lights come on in sequence to form a hill of light when at its most brilliant the lights go out and the sequence begins. Any creative person will enjoy this piece. Example in picture has been sold - a new version is on my website

Andy Willett Born in Stoke on Trent , England. I live and work in my home studio in Rugby, Warwickshire. Graduated with BA (1st Class Honours Degree) in Fine Art , Coventry University School of Art and Design 2008 Graduated with MA (Distinction) in Contemporary Art Practice , Coventry University 2010 I worked as a self employed Sign maker and Designer for around 20 years before studying Fine Art as a mature student. I now share my time between my artist practice and my work as a designer. I am interested using the devices, technology and information delivery methods such as advertising or signs to initiate a re examination of our acquired viewing responses. As a society and as individuals we are taught to respond in certain ways to visual stimuli both in terms of content and materials and in my work I am asking the viewer to reassess the way they respond to the materials and the form as much as the message. By using the power of materials, familiarity and humour I am attempting to lead the viewer into an elaborate series of associations which at the heart look at fundamental human relations, desires and failings. A sample of work is shown here - mainly items For Sale. Other work and information at my website http://www.andydwillett.com/. I accept commissions.
