About The Artwork

Low-density polyethylene cast in polyester resin, 65 x 65 x 10 cm. Strata is inspired by the discovery of a new rock classification called plastiglomerates, found on Hawaiian beaches in 2014, formed of sand, rock and plastic; a research paper ' published by the Royal Society Open Science Journal in 2014 that found microplastic fibres (anything smaller than 1mm) in abundance in deep-sea sediment core samples from the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean; and the geology of sedimentary rock formed over millions of years, from compressed organic matter. Strata considers the Anthropocene and the effects of fossil fuel extraction and plastic pollution on Earth’s geology and environment.  Strata is made from moulded recycled plastic resembling geological rock strata, cast in polyester resin. Framed using ArtGlass WW.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Hannah Scott is a British interdisciplinary artist whose work explores ways of visualising and communicating environmental change through a broad range of media including performance, installation, film, photography and painting. Hannah’s work explores the idea of art as actions, challenging her own values and abilities, rather than simply delivering a moral message. Since 2017, she has cycled and sailed approximately twenty thousand miles. Journeys are integral to her practice as a source of inspiration as well as being performative works in their own right. Combining art, science and personal experiences, Hannah creates work that reflects on humanity’s relationship with the natural world and endeavours to raise awareness of ecological issues. She has worked with climate and environmental scientists, and other professionals, to accurately inform her research.
