Stuck In The Moment Sculpture

Part of a series of works from “the hours spent” in which the creation, workings, and laws of the universe are interpreted as if it were made by a ethereal smith. This series of work is based heavily on themes of time and both the creation and destruction it brings. This particular piece is created to resemble a buckler shield. With an abstract sword spiraling forth, representing the flow of time. The mail hanging from it represents growing and fading, though it can move by outside interaction is hard fastened to time. This idea of time being inescapable is further represented by the illusionary effect of the polished central boss. It eerily reflects the spiral regardless from where you view it! Its a statement that really hits hard to those who interpret and or realize the “universe” it's reflecting is our own and “we” are the ones who can’t escape time or the moment! This piece is created out of hand tanned and died leather, wrapped around a historic representation of a solid oak buckler shield. The oak base has been stained to bring out the grain of the wood. The steel central boss (cover) is hand formed and mirrored polished. The spiral is hard fastened into the shield with evenly spaced steel, chainmail jump-rings. Each jump-ring is painstakingly hand forged and riveted into place. This is an original work and conceptual idea created and copyrighted by Kenneth Royce Spivey III a tenth generation smith, master sculptural artist, licensed educator, and prop maker. This particular piece was an original part of his master works constructed in Atlanta Georgia prior to his work with Disney’s Marvel in the entertainment industry. It currently resides in Birmingham Alabama on loan from the artist. It had no previous owner
