About The Artwork
This Italian ‘Volterra’ alabaster is described as a mineral made of light. It is extremely delicate but the stone spoke to me so I carved it. Instead of releasing my traditional 3 loop trefoil from the stone, I explored creating a more interconnected piece. The struts are pathways which connect with the loops to create a more contemporary piece. I love the result of this fusion of ideas. The name Tenere is latin/Italian for ‘to hold.’ The struts are like arms, holding the piece from the inside giving the viewer a feeling of elasticity in the stone.

He received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. T Barny has carved 205 individual types of stone, personally sourced from 43 countries spanning all continents except Antarctica. Abstraction is his fascination and power tools are his forte. T Barny is known for his stone mobius "Celtic Knots" and curvilinear shapes, and also works in wood, bronze, steel, water, and ice. His exhibitions and awards span decades, and his pieces hold prestigious placement in collections internationally.
