About The Artwork

This is an exhibited artwork from my project entitled 'Terminal Architecture'. Inspired by the socio-political aspects of inner city life, the project examines how the British Brutalist architecture of the 1960’s, in particular the high rise council estate tower blocks, often turned neighbourhoods into poverty ridden ghetto’s due to the decay and neglect of the buildings structure. This was not what Le Corbusier envisioned in his concept of communal living. This small sculpture relates to the fragile nature of the ill-built concrete structures that corroded from within. The estates often have a reputation for being anti-social; the consequences of crime and gang culture. I draw upon my own personal experiences having grown up on the Oliver Close estate in East London, during the 1970’s and 80’s. The Punk and SKA sub-cultures of the late ‘70’s, wrote lyrics highlighting these issues, most notibly The Specials.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work is informed by the natural environment of Ireland and its volatile and temperamental weather patterns which determines the tones and textures of my paintings. I pay particular attention to my research, referring to my plein air sketches and notes in order to construct my composition on the canvas. I take inspiration from Ireland's History of Traditional and Modernist Painters, together with my interpretations of Celtic Mythology, Folklore, Nostalgia and Edmund Burke's theory writings on the Sublime, to create a contemporary version of Ireland's people and landscapes. I use a variety of traditional materials in my preparation such as red bole and whiting to prepare the ground on the cotton and linen canvases. I also regularly make my own oil paint from traditional, reliable recipes, sourcing my raw materials from Cornelissen's in Bloomsbury.
