About The Artwork
The panels begin with frit, powdered glass, which is moistened then dried to introduce cracks, much like a dry riverbed. Through numerous and very specific kiln schedules, the cracks slowly evolve. I smash the finished panels to move the cracks from micro to macro, then re-melt them back together. This illustrates the intrinsic connection which bonds opposites together: day/night, black/white, nature/culture, The City Rises at Sunset.
