‘The Habit Doesn’t Make The Monk’ is a sculpture consisting of mannequin legs, a pair of ‘Snickers’ work trousers, and ‘Snickers’ bars. The work is primarily concerned with synchronicity as it relates to the popular idea that the dead can communicate with or effect the living.

Ireland
Born 1977, Dublin. Lives and Works in Kildare, Ireland. My practice is concerned with ‘openness’, which could be defined as the ground where you can no longer distinguish between self and other. More specifically, it is a concern with mental openness over physical openness. The practice is multi-disciplinary and includes; photography, sculpture, sound and video. The work is formulated through; drawing, photography, and the collection of found imagery and objects. This initial material is stored in both digital and physical archives, it is from these archives that material is filtered into more finished work. With regard to working methodology I try to use methods that compliment the theoretical framework of the practice including; assemblage, appropriation (specifically re-interpretation and re-contextualisation), using a combination of visual hardware and software along with conventional mediums and interchanging mediums. This practice is inspired by Buddhist practices and philosophies, existing art i.e. concept art, expressionism and minimalism and music.
