About The Artwork
nature devours oblivion consumes the maharaja's memories of splendid finery and savage rule. I thought of peacocks and exotic gardens, colourful attire, exuberant nature and the maharaja's finery. My garden overtakes, overpowers and overshadows memories of the past. In the end, we all return to the garden. My maharaja is woven, sewn and embroidered in the left bottom section of the artwork. Driftwood pieces form his body. I also used driftwood for the structural foundation. I built many elements for this piece over a substantial period of time. Green canopy is formed from wire, fabric and yarn. I used mostly vintage silks and cottons from India, deconstructing clothes and saris. The artwork hangs on one nail. The weight of the artwork is about 6 pounds.
