About The Artwork

The Story of the Stone is a great piece of literature by Chinese writer, Cao Xueqin (1715 or 1724 -- 1763 or 1764). He is one of the most famous novelist and poet in the history of Chinese literature. It mainly describes a group of honourable women who were wise, virtuous, independent and self-respected. Cao Xueqin, through these women's eyes, criticised the society that was controlled by males for two thousand years depicting it as hypocritical, conspiratorial and cruel. Cao Xueqin was the first man in Chinese history, who, affirmed a philosophy of death, instead of a philosophy of life. He produced an ending of death for extolling the free spirits of these women which is eternal and satirised those who were like the walking dead, even though they were physically alive. There are many experts who exclusively research the aesthetics of The Story of the Stone in China. At the same time, many artists also hope to express these women's figures by visual representation. However, different artists have a different understanding of "The Story of the Stone". As for the our version of "The Story of the Stone", we wish to convey a spirit that is free and eternal. Li Wan: Peach and plum in spring winds finish seeding, who can bloom like the orchid at last? Pure as ice and water she arouses envy, vain the groundless taunts that art the cast.

Zora&Holly Fine Art Born in the Northwest of China and now living in Zhuhai, China, Mei Xiaohua (Holly) and Zora are both experienced at integrating and developing a variety of traditional Chinese-handicrafts. They commit themselves to promoting the traditional Chinese-handicrafts as Fine Arts. After years of exploration and practise, they have opened up a new world of soft-sculpture, forming their own unique style. Their art conveys a special atmosphere of Chinese authentics, which are elegant, free, natural and vivid - it gives people food for thought. ----------------------------- It is hard to explain the secret behind our work. When my mother and I first worked together to create these art works we could never have imagined the results. Our only wish is to share them with those among you who love art. Also, we feel our work has a sense of fulfilling a special destiny. A daughter who was once taught so many things by her mother now finds herself becoming the teacher. "The life" represents familial affection, with mother and daughter knitted together in perfect intimacy. Their life experience has shaped each other's stories. "Losing" brought a new meaning to our relationship. Now cherishing each other and what we have is at the foundation of our relationship. This life of ours spans several decades but is ultimately limited. Sometimes it seems so long and at other times it appears so very short. However, within this finite life, we strive to create a small world which can retain an eternal serenity. Zora&Holly Fine Art hope these small sculptures can bring all of you a brief moment of serenity. Zora
