About The Artwork

I was commissioned as an artist to create a one-of-a-kind intricate handmade art piece for the prestigious Natural History Museum's 'Venom' Exhibition in London. I encapsulated the profound struggle between two iconic creatures of ancient Egypt: the Egyptian mongoose and the Egyptian cobra. I aimed to explore the captivating narrative of venom's evolution and its crucial role in the battle for survival. Previously showcased at The Other Art Fair, King's Cross in July 2021, this piece invites visitors to engage with the artwork in multiple contexts. Whether viewed in the historical and educational setting of the Natural History Museum or the contemporary and diverse atmosphere of The Other Art Fair, the artwork provides a bridge between the past and the present, inviting contemplation on the enduring themes of survival and adaptation. Carved heavy duty model makers foam with mixed media of human hair, paper, acrylic paint and gold spray paint. The piece would suit an indoor space where it is undisturbed as it moves slightly when touched due to its unique form. Please don't hesitate to contact me for further details. Rhea Thierstein is an international British Artist whose work explores our connections with nature, drawing attention to the pivotal significance of tiny moments which surround us, creating new experiences for her audiences. Unique application of everyday materials takes their boundaries to different levels, with the use of narrative to stimulate nostalgic responses. With delicacy, beauty and often a surprisingly dark undertone Rhea’s work has been seen on a multitude of platforms crossing over to art, installations, moving image, stills photography, costume and immersive theatre. Rhea was born in Germany, but grew up in the South of England. She loved to explore microworlds in her environment. Magnifying tiny moments is a continuing theme in her work. Rhea contributed work to an all female group show for Saatchi and Saatchi (London) and was commissioned to create an art installation at the Natural History Museum (London) for its Venom exhibition. She was also chosen by Hermès to be featured in their Artist Windows in the UK, Ireland and Dubai on a number occasions and was named as one of London’s 10 fastest-rising creatives by The Business of Fashion. By virtue of her reputation, Rhea was subsequently offered the task of Creative Practitioner for Performance, School of Media and Communication at The London College of Fashion (University of the Arts) in 2014 for two-and-a-half years.
