The Window is a highly textured, mixed media wall sculpture made from pine and wax, with a varnished finish. Inspired by his love of the non-conforming characteristics of melted wax, The Window, is an interpretation of both the complexity and beauty of the human eye. Crafted over many hours, this piece was one of Gareth’s more controlled constructions. It was formed to encourage the viewer to look deep into the eye, creating a window into ones own thoughts. The sculpture comes with the artist signature on the back, along with wall fixings to enable installation.

Gareth Foley is a self-taught modern multi-media artist based in the North East of England. Born and raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Gareth uses his knowledge as a skilled craftsman to inform his practise, creating pieces deep in texture and bold in image. He has a fascination with media, that under heat and manipulation can create, self-forming structures. His inspiration comes from creation and the complex relationships between various elements. To demonstrate his vision, he uses natural materials -wood and metal, fire and wax. Gareth comments – “I enjoy that in most instances, I don’t know exactly how my materials will form and that the wax can only be partially manipulated and controlled. Thus creating a fluid, almost spontaneous design, unique in structure. A piece can only ever be formed once, and that, is exciting”. He continues – “I hope my concepts evoke memories of childhood, inspire imagination and remind us of the freeing feeling that a lack of control can give.”
