About The Artwork

These raku 'bottles' and a raku bud vase have all been subjected to the raku process. There are some of typical raku colours, particularly metallic finishes, as well as crackle glaze. The first bottle in the image has a lovely series of marks left from copper wire being wound around the neck, both green and metallic. It also has an attractive blue glaze on the main body. The second from the left bottle includes some lava effect around the neck area. The third has both the crackle and a bubbling effect. In the case of the bud vase, a scorch mark as well as some more subtle matt finishes. The sizes of each 'bottle' and the bud vase are presented here in order of the first image, left to right. They are listed by height(h), width(w) and depth(d). 1. 8.5" x 1.75" diameter 2. 7.25" x 2" diameter 3. 7.55" x 1.5" x 1.5" 4. 5.5" x 2" diameter What is Raku? Raku firing is a traditional Japanese pottery technique known for its unpredictability and unique results. It is often characterized by its crackled glaze and distinctive colors, and/or unusual textures, making it a sought-after art form for many collectors and enthusiasts. Pieces such as this can take anything up to 6+ hours each to make from start to finish. These four were both made from slabs and coils and then shaped. Please note that I do not use a wheel for any of the vases and bottles that I make, preferring a longer process allowing me to create a closer sense of 'being' with the forms I make.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been a ceramicist for more than 30 years. 99% of my work is made using coils, slabs and pinch pots with the occasional use of extruded forms and aslip casting. The emphasis of my work is scupltural and ornamental rather than utlitarian. I have a particular interest in the fusing and melding of glass to ceramics and this body of work is collected from as far afield as the Middle East and USA.
