About The Artwork
I exhibited this artwork on November 20, 2018, at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre during the Housing Central - BC’s Affordable Housing Conference to draw attention to the “Trans Day of Remembrance” and their plight crossing the border from Mexico to the USA. I highlighted the danger using the red sand given to me at the Art in Society Conference by Molly Gochman (MOLLYGOCHMAN.COM) who created the #REDSANDPROJECT movement to end slavery. Those ideas persuaded me to attend the University of Victoria where I earned my BFA (Hons) by 1992. The target was to develop a symbolic metalanguage to facilitate deconstructive events while perusing the ideas of painting in Western art history. I have expressed myself conceptually through gouged plywood painting, encaustic painting, kinetic painting, glitter painting, nano painting and pure substrateless painting in a style I think of as reductive but thoughtful.
