Gilbert Boro's 'Tres Gatos' series draws its inspiration from a life-long interest in felines. Over the years, Boro has drawn, modeled and welded numerous versions of cats in a variety of poses and configurations. This limited edition series depicts three cats -- the two larger figures are Maine Coon cats from the same litter and the smaller one is a furry short-haired white The former, named Molly and Barney, have achieved a remarkable 21 years in age and now spend much of their busy days together washing each other, sleeping and eating. Sadly, the younger cat has passed away, but during his long and active life, he behaved much like their younger sibling -- always pushing his way in to be part of the group.

Gilbert Boro is an abstract sculptor with a focus on the interplay of space, place, and form. In his work, he prefers formal clarity to ornamentality and he relies on variations of complementary elements, such as planes juxtaposed with curves. Boro materials include stone, steel, wood, aluminum, and plastics. Where appropriate, he will use computer-aided design to model the spatial relationships of his working drafts. The challenges and joys of creative activity are found in the visualization - as much as in the execution - of an idea. For Gilbert, working at sculpture is a compulsion not just a possibility. He believes that art doesn’t need to solve or interpret societal problems. Rather, the virtue of art is that it allows us to regain the creativity that we all had naturally as children. His approach engages with the entire process of sculpture, as he respects the history of figuration as well as the importance of the human form. His artistic process begins with the traditional practice of sketching and working out the form with maquettes. The specific scale of his sculptures is based on a consideration of sculpture as more than an object in space. It becomes a space in and of itself. Boro has received two traveling fellowships and held many visiting teaching positions. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and purchased by collectors, corporations and foundations in the US and Europe.
