"Trophies" 1999 (detail) Sculpture

Description I first used waste cardboard for making sculpture in 1999, with an environmental installation called “Trophies”. This was a protest against deforestation after learning, in an elective at college, that over 80% of all the trees that are felled in the whole world, are pulped, to make paper and cardboard. This results in many of the wild beasts losing their habitats and becoming endangered and extinct. The original “Trophies” consisted of twelve animal heads, each mounted on a trophy plate and hung on the wall with three long old fashioned tree saws made from waste cardboard, slung beneath them. This was in the same manner that sporting rifles were slung beneath stuffed animal heads which had been shot by so called sportsmen.
