Wheel thrown, off-white pitcher/jug, illustrated and sgraffito by hand a trout, fisherman, fishing flies (note this is an original piece of work, no transfers, decals etc are used). The jug is finished with an all-over clear glaze, it was fired twice in my kiln to over 1100 degrees centigrade.

The material I used was terracotta clay, white slip and coloured underglazes and slips, the glaze is lead-free. It is very much a natural, handmade and rustic piece, ideal for a country cottage setting or dresser. The finish is smooth, though in some areas, a little sgraffito texture may be felt (which adds to the tactile qualities of the piece).

One of my great loves was fishing and fly-fishing for trout in Devon and Somerset are some of my happiest memories, I hope some of that joy comes through in this handmade and illustrated piece. Fishing is a theme I come back to from time to time, but each piece of pottery is always different.

Ideal for flowers or floral decoration, as a centrepiece or indeed, as a functional water jug.

Man's best dog-friendly ceramic artist. As a potter and ceramic artist Simon Olley is fascinated by the relationship that develops between man and man’s best friend. His work combines illustration and sgraffito in the commissions of unique pottery based on his customer’s favourite four-legged friends. Simon also makes work celebrating the exciting (sometimes imaginary) life of his Labrador Retriever (the least demanding of supermodels) in permanent, everlasting ceramic form – so much easier to keep clean than the real thing! Commission the art of creative custom ceramics – Simon Olley undertakes unique custom ceramics based upon one's lives, loves and special dogs. Simon Olley is a Selected Member the Craft Potters Association. The aim of the Craft Potters Association (CPA) is to promote and encourage the creation of high quality ceramics. Selected membership is a highly regarded title within the studio ceramics industry and is awarded to makers whose work demonstrates a very high technical and aesthetic level of sophistication.
