Yıldırım Denizli (born 1946 in Erzurum, Turkey) is a Turk who settled in the Dusseldorf area of Germany. Escaping his surroundings in Eastern Anatolia during the 1960s, where modern art was not on the minds of everyone, the son of a butcher set out to Istanbul to study and work. Subsequently, he was accepted to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where he earned his second fine arts degree. Denizli has established himself as one of the leading artists of the region, with a very large variety of pieces ranging from small drawings to large installations. Denizli's work shows a unique perspective reflecting his journey from the mountains of the Orient to one of Europe's most prominent art centers. Several institutions (e.g. Museum Kunstpalast) have incorporated his work into their collections. With most of his work lacking a title, he prefers to leave the interpretation process solely in the eye (and brains) of the beholder. You only see what you know.
