About The Artwork

Zippy was created in a response Covid-19 Shelter in Place as a relief and diversion to neighborhood kids and their parents. As soon as I recovered from Covid-19 myself, I developed Art Yard Shenanigans... carving stone in my front yard. As I carved I was able to teach the neighborhood kids practical uses of math, the importance of making a plan, patience, how to lift and move heavy objects without modern equipment and how to carve. This rather large running bunny kept the kids entertained for the 2 months it took to carve using only hand chisels, hammer, rasps and sand paper. Zippy the bunny is portrayed in mid-dash, dust billowing beneath his paws. His face is turned slightly to the left as he shifts his direction. Ears are fluttering in the wind and laid back for aerodynamic effect. There are 2 possible realities to Zippy's situation... 1) The neighborhood park is a half block away. Is Zippy running to play in the park with the other bunnies? 2) City coyotes have been spotted a half block in the other direction. Is Zippy running to save his life? Many times in life's situations, we layer on our own past experiences to make judgements on today's situation. While this can protect us from danger it can also limit our ability to experience joy. I accept both realities by choosing a joyful Zippy running to the park to play with his friends; knowing that the endurance he develops from running will protect him from the coyotes when needed. Zippy's is made from limestone and is perfect for indoor or outdoor display. A garden setting would be perfect. Don't worry, he won't eat your petunias!

Creating art as a kid = Yep College Degree in Fine Art = Yep Become an artist = hmmm, sort of, hmmm, not yet, hmmm Turn 50 years old = Yep, Let's Do Art!!!! Turn 60 years old - Yep, Why stop now? It took 50 years for me to be in a place secure enough to create art. After a small bout of homelessness in my 20's, I focused on an income in the corporate world. Then the corporate world, unceremoniously, spit me out in 2008. I turned my love of dance into my next career. So much joy came from this, I then turned my attention to art. I have been creating and showing sculpture ever since. Each day I dance and create art is filled with joy! Each day I share what I know with others about dance and art is filled with even more joy. My motto... Wake Up, Be Awesome, Be Kind, Bring Joy, Repeat
