"I can clearly see her wings. She is strong and caring, she is tenacious and delicate, she loves deeply, she gives unconditionally, she is a magical creature overall..." This specific piece is made of an unknown type of root. It has been completed with a small piece of bronze and a black wooden pedestal. Every piece in this collection has been processed with hagiography powder pigments in tiny amounts and thus the natural color of the root is starring. The pieces have been finished with a varnish that Nikos Manessis makes out of pure Cretan beeswax and white spirit. This entire collection has been co-created with nature itself, inspired by and communicated by nature to the artist. Nikos Manessis argues that each root had already told him what it should be shaped into before he started the process. He followed the shape as well as the wood grain of each root to allow everyone else to see what he could see beforehand.

Greece
Nikos Manessis is a woodcarving artist born and raised in Athens, Greece and he is currently based in Crete, Greece. His love for both the wood and art has been expressed since the age of 10. He officially started his woodcarving journey at the age of 14, learning as an apprentice how to make wood carved pieces for churches, following the Greek style. Nikos Manessis is known for his natural wooden shapes with small additions of other materials - mostly metals. His mission is to highlight the beauty of nature, the human body and the whole range of human emotions. These three, as well as Greek Mythology are the main sources of his inspiration. "What I do is a personal internal need to shape wood to its best and remind everyone that things can change just like the malleable matter of wood. We only have to feel it and by any means try for it." Nikos Manessis says.
