About The Artwork

A small sculpture made from a toy Mini car, with a paper and card box attached to the top of the car: the 'roof box' opens to reveal a fabric and thread sphere, loose and rolling around inside the box. The sphere is like a pearl: layers of wool, thread and stitching covering and cocooning an irritant, in this case words that could not be uttered out loud. On another level, the sculpture refers to pregnancy, and the great weight (cargo) of responsibility, illustrated by the discrepancy between the size of the car and the size of the 'roof box'. Each element refers to elements in the artist's personal iconography.

I have been making things forever. Making things is how I make sense of the world. I guess everyone works in a different way, but somehow, once I start making it's like connecting with an inner voice, or my subconscious, and as I make, the meaning and inspiration which triggered the idea reveals itself to me, and often surprises me!
