About The Artwork

The sand, that comes trickling from the pots originates from the bank of a river nearby my house. The water has ground the rocks to sand and deposited on the riverside. Clay as well is weathered stone. I have filled the sand into these containers, „Schütten“, and emptied them again, once fired with 1200° it is transformed back to stone. The fire has reset the material into its original amorphous state. Tempus fugit is an allegory about our temporary existence and civilisation. Through the observation of nature, mankind civilized. Making pottery was a milestone in this success story.
