About Francis Reynolds

Francis Reynolds is a British Artist who lives and works in Cambridgeshire, England. He returned to education as a mature student in 2007 to study Fine Art. Reynolds graduated with a Fine Art BA at Loughborough University in 2012. Since graduating, Francis started a family yet still achieves regular exhibitions nationally together with instructing Art students at a local academy. His paintings are held in Private collections throughout the UK and internationally.

Reynolds’ practice can be seen to be quite destructive in as far as process. However, it can be said that the passive/ aggressive nature of the paintings lends themselves to the very nature of the human condition.

Reynolds’ outcomes strive to question and reinvigorate the subject; its historical and contemporary context. Together with consolidating ideas of deconstruction; an act of taking apart and rebuilding. This may also highlight the deconstruction of conventions and what is expected from representational painting.

The body of work can be seen to emphasise process by exaggerating the application and meticulous methodology through thin layers of paint and blocks of colour. This functions as a way of viewing what was there from past layers, and where decisions in the reconstruction of form were made.
